International Week of Deaf People & International Day of Sign Languages 2022

International Week of Deaf People #IDPL, is observed between 19-23 Sep 2022. The week has daily themes  under the overall theme: Building Inclusive Communities For All

International Day of Sign Languages #IDSL2022 on 23 Sep 22 highlights the theme “Sign Languages Unite Us All.”

As Churches in India let us work to end the invisibility of deaf persons, and celebrate the diversity in sign languages. Here’s what we can do:
  • Introduce Signing in your worship services, schools, and church related work spaces to make deaf persons welcome
  • Start learning simple signing to dialogue with and make friendships with deaf persons
  • Employ deaf persons in church related spaces
  • Realise the intersectional vulnerabilities faced by illiterate deaf women who do not know to sign, read, or write
