Building a Pool of Trainers in ED Disability Inclusion Toolkit for Churches

A vibrant group of 20 trainers drawn from diverse backgrounds were brought together at CNI Bhavan in Delhi for the 3-day North Region Training of Trainers in Engage Disability’s flagship resource “Disability Inclusion Toolkit for Churches” between 26-28 February 2024.

Engage Disability builds the capacities of partners and associates in the network by creating a pool of trainers who can then in-turn take the vision of disability inclusion in churches to wider audiences in their own respective locations and spheres of influence. This is also a good way to disseminate resources created by ED in English into the regional languages in India.

We had a good geographic representation from the North Region with the Delhi, MP, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra (Nagpur), West Bengal (Kolkata) among the Trainers.

Through interactive discussions, activities, group work and presentations, the main trainer from Engage Disability Ms. Jubin Varghese took the participants through various topics like Safeguarding, Church life and Identifying Barriers, Inclusive Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Empowerment, Leisure, Personal Development and Family Life.

Engage Disability’s Training Facilitator, Rev Eunice Rajamathi led the session on biblical and faith principles of disability. Every team was also able to draw up their own plan of action for the coming months to outline the kind of trainings they will undertake in the coming nine months of this year.

We are grateful to the ED hubs and associates who put careful thought into the teams they sent to this training. The teams were from CNI Delhi Diocese, EFICOR, Ashish Foundation, Christian Coalition for Health, the NCCI-IDEA teams from MP and Odisha, Nagpur hub, Dehra Dun hub, Kolkata hub, and the Delhi Hub.

Engage Disability is thankful for the growth of this movement through these trainers and hopes that in the coming months we will see more trainings carried forward by these trainers for different groups.
